Rufous Scrub birds are a rare & elusive threatened species (with 2 identified sub species) found in high altitude east coast forests of South East Qld & Northern NSW. They are near impossible to see as they live in very dense, ground level vegetation & seldom take flight. . Forestry ecologists survey for Rufous Scrub birds as part of their work, in assessing sites planned for timber harvesting. Surveying involves playing the male call in and adjacent to suitable habitat during the breeding seaso
