How fast do Atlantic Puffins fly? The start of this video is actual speed these guys fly at… Then the video slows by four times. Puffin wings beat 400 times per minute and they fly at speeds above 40 miles per hour. Bit of a learning curve to photograph them in flight but after a day hanging with 1000 of them on a tiny island you get lots of practice. The Atlantic puffin is a colorful seabird and is the only puffin that lives in the Atlantic Ocean. Puffins are excellent swimmers and, like penguins, use their wings to swim underwater while chasing prey. Unlike penguins, they are good fliers.
