While feral Hogs are indeed true pigs, Javelinas belong to a completely different family of mammals called collared peccaries. Hippopotamuses are actually distantly related to Javelinas by suborder, and they do share some characteristics. Javelinas have a scent gland on the top of their rump covered by long hairs. They regularly rub their scent on each other
