This animal is often called a fox on stilts, but it is not a fox at all. It is the maned wolf, the largest canid in South America, standing nearly three feet tall at the shoulder. They inhabit the grasslands and scrub forests of the cerrado, a vast biome spanning Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru. Unlike other wolves, they are solitary and communicate with a unique roar bark. Their diet surprisingly includes a large portion of fruit, mainly the wolf apple, a relative of the tomato.
