Scientists with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Scripps Oceanography got their first live look at what might be a new species of killer whale in the Southern Ocean. Called Type D, the whales were previously known only from strandings, fishermen’s stories, and tourist photographs.
