What Do Manatees Eat [Food Habits of Manatee]

How do we feed our manatees? The manatees in our care typically consume anywhere from 100 to 300 pounds of lettuce a day. We offer lettuce in different ways, first using bottom feeders to mimic rooted plants these manatees will encounter in the wild. Secondly, we place heads of lettuce gently on the surface to mimic floating vegetation. A 410-pound manatee rescued from a Florida storm drain is recovering at SeaWorld Orlando

Orphaned Manatee Rescued: This baby manatee will get a second chance thanks to our manatee rescue and research team! Manatee rescues usually begin with a citizen report to our Wildlife Alert Hotline (888-404-3922). Staff then assess and when necessary, respond and provide the injured, sick or stranded manatee with the help it needs.
