This is the ilimba from Tanzania made by the Zawose family we played on our first album. The keys are made of flattened bed springs. The ilimba was famously played by the late Dr. Hukwe Zawose and his nephew Charles as they toured with Peter Gabriel and recorded on his Real World label. The ilimba resonates sympathetically because of the two set of keys. The buzzing comes from the yellow pieces of sardine tins wrapped around each key.
