Back in the 1930’s, before Hatteras Island had paved roads, before there was a bridge, even before most of the island had electricity... there was charter fishing. The Albatross Fleet was born in 1937 and was North Carolina’s first charter fishing business. Steve was honored to illustrate the Albatross II for the 2022 Carolina Boat Builders Tournament! On June 12, cyclist and pilot Bryan Allen pedaled the Gossamer Albatross across the English Channel. The dream of human-powered flight was very publicly realized on that day! The Museum of Flight is home to the Gossamer Albatross II, the backup aircraft for the big day.
