ARLINGTON - As the Rangers scramble to backfill some pitching needs, they will do so without one of their previous options.

Those bullpen games have been quite a relief for the Texas Rangers. With Nathan Eovaldi still on the injured list and Tyler Mahle dealing with shoulder stiffness, the Rangers twice in the past week have gone with bullpen games.

The White Sox employed a bullpen day strategy, with rookie right-hander Mike Vasil making the start. Vasil delivered an impressive performance and completed four scoreless innings while allowing only two hits, four walks, and striking out four batters.

With the three shutout innings against the White Sox, Armstrong lowered his ERA as a starter to 1.04 (four earned runs in 34.2 innings). That’s the lowest starter ERA (minimum of 17 starts) for any pitcher in Major League Baseball’s Live Ball Era, which began in 1920.
