A significant magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck the Drake Passage on August 21, 2025, triggering tsunami alerts for Chile's coast. The passage, a crucial waterway between South America and Antarctica, is known for its turbulent waters and active tectonics.

As per the USGS, the quake struck over 700 km southeast of Argentina's southern city of Ushuai. The earthquake hit the southern part of America at 2.16 am UTC, 7.46 am as per the Indian Standard Time.
