Following the interview casting fresh uncertainty over Fernandes' future at United, it has now come to light that the midfielder is said to have an exit clause in his deal. According to Fabrizio Romano, this can only be activated by overseas clubs.
"United will just have to hope Fernandes' injury is not four or five weeks because that would be a huge blow. They can't afford to have him out while Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo are away [at Afcon]. "He is so crucial to the team so hopefully it will only be a few weeks. Otherwise, they might need that January transfer window even more."
