The European Union’s trade commissioner, Maros Sefcovic, underscored that progress has been made in tariff talks with the U.S., even as President Donald Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs have gone into effect.

President Trump has agreed to extend the deadline for negotiating tariffs with the European Union by more than a month. This decision comes after a period of heightened tensions following Trump’s threat to raise tariffs on EU goods to 50%.
