After the arrival of a cold front Thursday night, a hard freeze is forecast for Austin and Central Texas again this upcoming weekend.

A cold front arriving on Friday will bring arctic air and below-freezing temperatures to Central Texas, with overnight lows potentially dropping into the teens Saturday.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which manages the grid, issued a Weather Watch from Jan. 24 through Jan. 27. The alert comes as forecasters predict below-freezing temperatures, the possibility of frozen precipitation and increased demand for electricity – all conditions that could tighten power reserves.

An Arctic front arriving Friday will bring a dramatic temperature drop of around 40 degrees this weekend.
