The jackpot for the next drawing on Wednesday night has soared to an estimated $1.25 billion, the sixth largest ever.
Powerball ticket sales have been roughly five times higher than normal in the last week, a Kentucky Lottery spokesperson said.
A winning Powerball ticket worth $50,000 has been sold in Kentucky, and multiple others remain unclaimed. According to the Kentucky Lottery, the drawing took place on Monday, Dec. 15. The winning ticket was purchased at Kroger Fuel Center at 6767 Beulah Church Road in Louisville.

Office pool in Kentucky secures $50K Powerball prize
A group of TG Kentucky workers is celebrating after winning $50,000 together in a Powerball drawing. The Kentucky Lottery said that for several years, each member of the group has been paying into an office pool and having coworkers purchase tickets when the Powerball jackpot hits $800 million.
