The first clinical trial comparing semaglutide and tirzepatide, two popular, injectable weight-loss drugs, has been published, examining their ability to reduce weight and waist circumference. And one clearly comes out on top.

Those who take tirzepatide, the drug sold as Zepbound and Mounjaro, could lose more weight than those who take semaglutide, known as Ozempic and Wegovy, according to new research.

Participants who took tirzepatide — which is sold as Zepbound by Eli Lilly — lost an average of 50 pounds over 72 weeks. Those who took semaglutide — known as Novo Nordisk's Wegovy, lost about 33 pounds.
