While Simpson has been a backup in each of the last two seasons, this is set to be his fourth year within the program.

The Crimson Tide on Monday, Aug. 11, reportedly named Ty Simpson their starting quarterback for their season opener against Florida State, according the Tuscaloosa News' Colin Gay, part of the USA TODAY Network, who was first to report the news. The team was informed of the decision.

Ty Simpson has been named the starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, according to ESPN sources. Simpson won the job over redshirt sophomore Austin Mack and freshman Keelon Russell in a competition to replace Jalen Milroe.
