NWS said there's a 5%-14% chance winds reach over 60 miles per hour, and a 2%-4% chance those winds turn into a tornado.
“Stronger showers and thunderstorms will have the potential to produce locally damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and/or a funnel cloud or brief tornado,” NWS Portland said in the statement.
Forecast models say once any lingering showers taper off, dry conditions take hold for the rest of the weekend. Daily highs will end up in the lower 60s as mostly sunny skies dominate the region.
A Tornado Watch has been issued in the Southeast Louisiana region. Severe storms, capable of transforming into hurricanes, are heading towards the region.
