While the imaginations of many Monongalia County residents likely wandered off to warmer locales during the recent winter storm, their cars, by and large, stayed at home. And for that, the county's first responders are grateful.

The U.S. workweek opened with yet more snow dumping on the Northeast under the tail end of a colossal winter storm that brought ice and power outages, impassable roads, canceled flights and frigid cold to much of the southern and eastern United States.

Winter Storm Fern continued to impact the Texoma region Monday, causing water main breaks, traffic accidents and structural damage as ice and snow accumulated across the area.

Snow in Hays during the weekend led law enforcement to respond to several accidents. Hays Police Lt. Brandon Wright said officers responded to four accidents involving vehicles sliding into one another. One incident saw a vehicle hitting a sign when going through a roundabout on Vine Street. He said no injuries were reported.
