The New York Knicks started the season as one of the hottest teams in the East. They had a tremendous December, winning the NBA Cup against the Spurs and pulling off some miraculous comebacks, including a statement win against the Cavaliers on Christmas Day when they came back from 17 points down.

Rounding out the starters, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart both had double-doubles. Bridges’ was a 20-point, 11-rebound affair on 7-of-16 shooting, 1-of-6 from deep in 38 minutes. Hart played 42 minutes, scoring 12 points, grabbing 15 boards, and dishing out eight dimes.

New York Knicks coach Mike Brown wasn't too satisfied with forward Karl-Anthony Towns' performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Anthony Edwards scored 38 points to help the Minnesota Timberwolves beat former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns for the first time and hold off the New York Knicks 115-104 on Tuesday night.

The New York Knicks have been one of the top teams in the league entering 2026. As of writing, they are in the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a 22-9 record.

Tonight was a much different story. The Wolves took down the Knicks 115-104 in a game they led most of the second half. Towns played well again, scoring 40 points and fouling out in classic KAT fashion, but without Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby, the Wolves’ defense held the rest of the Knicks roster in check.

There is “no question,” Brown said, that Towns belongs in the Eastern Conference’s All-Star field, even amid what some might label a down season by the center’s lofty standards. For a Knicks team firmly in the mix for the No. 1 seed, Brown views Towns as an automatic selection.
