For some of those teams, that will involve finding new head coaches and/or General Managers. Three teams fired their head coaches during the season and two more have been dispatched as of 9 a.m. ET on January 6.

In the NFL, just one head coaching job remains: The New Orleans Saints. In college, there have been plenty of changes, including Bill Belichick going to North Carolina. On Wednesday, former Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong landed a job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the team's defensive line coach, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network .

Setting aside interim hires, McLaurin’s Commanders is one of 11 clubs that never employed a full-time head coach who is Black, joining the Bills, Cowboys, Giants, Jaguars, Panthers, Rams, Ravens, Saints, Seahawks and Titans. That’s about a third of the NFL.

An Associated Press survey of more than 65 Black players from 25 NFL teams found that about 36% were discouraged or disappointed by the number of Black coaches in the league.
