EAST LANSING — An opening week of the season that featured a historic scoring performance has played a part in the Michigan State women's basketball team jumping into the top 25 of the USA Today Coaches Poll for the first time this season.

Jaloni Cambridge is taking a more prominent leadership role for in her sophomore season, which started during the season opener vs. Coppin State.

After being snubbed in the first rankings, MSU women's basketball has officially broken into the Top-25 of the Coaches Poll:

The story of the game was Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda, who led Vanderbilt in scoring with 16 points as she hit two of her three three-pointer attempts in the game. Mikayla Blakes played well, as usual against Furman, scoring 15 points on 6-for-14 shooting and 2-for-6 from long range.
