Severe weather is expected to bring subzero temperatures the northern Plains as soon as Thursday, then reach the Mississippi Valley, the Northeast and the Ohio Valley by Sunday.

A winter storm warning has been issued ahead of a weekend storm which brings the threat of up to a foot of snow and ice in parts of Greater Cincinnati and Ohio.

Extreme and record-breaking temperatures will spread across the eastern half of the country as the storm progresses, causing rapid changes.
