Another new law addresses impaired driving. Assembly Bill 1087, authored by Republican Assemblymember Joe Patterson, increases probation terms from two years, with their sentencing, to three to five years for drivers who kill someone while driving under the influence.

California drivers who are caught motoring at speeds of more than 100 mph will now face disciplinary actions imposed by the Department of Motor Vehicles — including potentially losing their driving privileges.

"Highway 41 is closed in both directions between the junction of Hwy. 46 and Hwy. 33 due to a rockslide," Caltrans posted on social media Monday morning. "A detour is available using Hwy. 46 and Hwy. 33 which would add one half hour of travel time. Crews are on site making repair assessments. No estimated time for reopening."

According to CHP, assembly Bill 282 allows local authorities to reduce speed limits in school zones from 25 to 20 miles per hour through January 1st, 2031. After that date, speed limits will automatically drop to 20 miles per hour in school zones once proper signage is posted.

The California Highway Patrol warned drivers to be cautious because "'making memories’ shouldn’t include us pulling you out of a snowbank."

Cal Trans has issued a Sig Alert on Interstate Ten near Whitewater. Just before 5:00 p.m. Emergency crews were alerted to a truck hauling several cars on fire. The truck is reportedly under the Whitewater bridge and crews are on scene working to put out the fire.
