A volcano erupted on Wednesday in southwest Iceland, authorities said, with live media images showing it belched smoke and dramatic flows of glowing hot yellow and orange lava, the latest in a series of outbreaks near the capital in recent years.

ANTIOCH — A 10-acre fire that broke out in Antioch on Tuesday afternoon prompted a public health advisory for smoke, authorities said.

A group of Republican lawmakers has complained that smoke from Canadian wildfires is ruining summer for Americans, just days after voting for a major bill that will cause more of the planet-heating pollution that is worsening wildfires.

Smoke from Northern California wildfires, including the Green Fire, continues to affect Reno and surrounding areas. As of Tuesday morning, Reno’s air quality was rated “moderate” by AirNow.gov, meaning conditions may affect sensitive groups but are generally acceptable for the public.
