A rather nasty-looking storm is due to get underway Saturday afternoon, with a mix of snow and ice in the Philly region before transitioning to a heavy rain, perhaps the most significant precipitation the region has received in several weeks.

Precipitation equivalent to more than one inch of rain will fall across Massachusetts this weekend, but it will take various forms — frozen and unfrozen — depending on location and time.

Of all the precipitation types, freezing rain is by most measures the worst because it can weigh heavily on trees and power lines.
