It comes after the Minnesota Senate moved two years ago to ban the dissemination of sexually explicit deepfakes, which have proliferated at a vast rate in recent years as AI technology becomes more advanced and commonplace.

A bill to ban apps and websites that create fake sexualized pictures of people has been introduced in the Senate.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, 30-year-old William Haslach, who is a former employee of Independent School District #622 (North St. Paul—Maplewood—Oakdale) and ISD #834 (Stillwater), was charged with receipt and possession of child pornography as well as production of an obscene visual representation of child sexual abuse.

Court documents state that Haslach worked in several "positions of trust" with children in Independent School District (ISD) #622 and ISD #834, which are located in the Oakdale and Stillwater areas, respectively.

The plan would require artificial intelligence companies to deactivate a feature that allows users to make people appear naked or engaged in sexual acts in photos or videos without their consent.
