The Mets opened their series with the Padres on the wrong side of a walk-off single on Monday night, which snapped a seven-game win streak. They entered Tuesday night with a 62-45 record, which leads the NL East standings. The Padres held a 1-0 lead when Soto left the game, thanks to an RBI single from Jackson Merrill in the first inning.
