Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute on Thursday to former PM Jawaharlal Nehru on his 135th birth anniversary. In a post on X, PM Modi said, “On the occasion of his birth anniversary, I pay homage to our former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Sharing his tribute on X, the Prime Minister posted, "On the occasion of his birth anniversary, I pay homage to our former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru."

Referring to Nehru as the ‘Jawahar of India’, Rahul Gandhi said his democratic, progressive, fearless, visionary, inclusive values will forever be India's values.

Jawaharlal Nehru was fondly called 'Chacha Nehru' and was known for emphasising the importance of giving love and affection to children. His birth anniversary is celebrated as Children’s Day in India.

Children's day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Nehru, who was fond of children. He came to be known as ‘Chacha Nehru’ He had a deep affection for children and also enjoyed spending time with them.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, a steadfast advocate for children's education and rights, was posthumously honoured in 1964 when the government declared his birth anniversary as Children's Day.
