In the first attempted carjacking, Waterbury Lt. Ryan Bessette said a suspect pointed a gun at the victim’s head and demanded they exit the vehicle, but the victim managed to drive away. In the second incident, multiple suspects who were armed with firearms exited a Ford Explorer and demanded the victim’s car keys, Bessette said.

No one was injured after officers exchanged gunfire with the carjacking suspect near 9th Street and Van Brunt Avenue.

A police officer was shot while engaging with suspect in Waterbury Thursday evening. Police say that authorities were conducting an investigation regarding attempted carjackings at various locations throughout the city when they encountered the suspects in the west end.
