Sir Keir Starmer has said RAF jets and military assets are being sent to the Middle East. It comes after Iran warned the UK, US and France their bases in the region will be targeted if they help Israel stop Tehran's strikes.

The UK is moving additional fighter jets and other military aircraft to the Middle East, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said on Saturday, after Iran threatened to attack British bases in the region if they assisted Israel.

The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah was long considered Iran’s first line of defense in case of a war with Israel.

The reaction was noticeably different on Friday than it was after the last time Israel attacked Iran, when several countries provided backup and resources.

Israel and Iran launched fresh attacks on each other late on Saturday, stoking fears of a wider conflict after Israel expanded its surprise campaign against its main rival with a strike on the world's biggest gas field.
